BLUEGRASS IN TURNER, MAINE
|
|
Details:
|
The Turner Community holds an annual Festival on the Green in conjunction with the 4th of July parade, after the parade on Sunday at 10:00 AM. Folks congregate to enjoy strawberry shortcake, support the local library, and this year, to be part of the dedication of the newly constructed - well, almost finished - GAZEBO on the Green.
The Gazebo project was undertaken as a tribute to a life-long Turner resident, the late Mavis Varney, inspired by
> her daughter, Paula Varney Anderson. Although the finishing touches may not quite be on the Gazebo by the 4th of July, the show must go on.... It will be dedicated on the 4th and BLUEGRASS MUSIC will be provided as the first sounds to come from under its roof! :-)
>
Local Turner/Greene residents and friends, famously known as the Thursday Night Pickers, will provide the music on the 4th. Many know us as "Dr. Becky" Law, Diane Rines, Carroll Johnston, Red Small, Herman LeBlanc, Glenn & Holly
Bowman, Carolyn Viger, and special guest, John Sparrow, on bass.
For the summer, we are adopting our new name, The Gazebo Pickers and Grinners, since the summer events will mostly be on Tuesday nights and we want to nip mass confusion in the bud.
>
We are also working on future Gazebo events, and are thrilled to announce that the Hemingway Brothers Band will be appearing at the Gazebo on Tuesday evening, July 20th, from 7 to 9 pm.
There will be bluegrass also on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays in August, to be announced....
For now, please come to the gathering on the 4th (we will start at about 10:45 and play for 1-2 hours)and mark your calendars for the Hemingway Brothers Band on July 20th in
Turner!
Bring your lawn chairs. The hat will be passed for the band, free will donation-style.
>
Any questions, please call "Dr. Becky" at 225-6264.

HEMINGWAY BROTHERS BLUEGRASS BAND COMING TO TURNER GAZEBO
|
|
Details:
|
Hemingway Brothers Bluegrass Band Coming to Turner Gazebo
> Don't miss a fun-filled, toe-tapping good time on Tuesday night, July 20th, as the Hemingway Brothers Band of Harrison, Maine, brings their traditional bluegrass sound to the Turner Gazebo.
Raised in a home filled with bluegrass records, and steeped in their Dad's claw-hammer style banjo music,
Kip and Dale Hemingway have been playing bluegrass music for over 20 years. Their sound draws on first-generation bluegrass classics like Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, Flatt & Scruggs, and especially the Stanley Brothers.
Band members are Kip and Dale Hemingway on vocals, banjo and guitar, Bruce Hobart on fiddle, mandolin and vocals, John Sparrow on Bass, and 17-yr old Hunter Webber on just about the hottest banjo you have ever heard.
These boys make the rounds at the Festivals around New England during the summer, and are donating this show to help us launch Bluegrass events at the Gazebo this
summer, so please come and show your support.

OSSIPEE VALLEY BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL
|
|
Details:
|
If youve been to Ossipee Valley then you know the experience is a kin to being dipped in a vat of music. Youll be covered from head to toe with strings and harmonies and driving beats. Your head will be swimming with tunes from the mainstage and your toes will be tapping out the rhythms in the dance barn.
We say this every year and its always true...this years lineup is the best ever! The Steep Canyon Rangers, Crooked Still, The Gibson Brothers, The Claire Lynch Band, Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper, The Bluegrass Gospel Project, The Belleville Outfit, The Good Lovelies, The Packway Handle Band, Darol Anger and the Republic of Strings, Joy Kills Sorrow, Della Mae, The Bagboys, Muddy Marsh Ramblers, Bits & Pieces and theres always a last minute surprise too. Speaking of Too we have added a second stage, aptly named, Stage Too! We will be showcasing bands all day Friday and Saturday. And, while the stage is up and amped why not have Breakfast with the Beatles Saturday morning and a Jazz Brunch Sunday morning. Look for the fun at our second stage, its just a short stroll from the mainstage down Vendor Alley!
This year, on Saturday Night, the dance barn will be converted into a sweltering Louisiana swamp with Dennis Stroughmatt and Creole Stomp! And, if you cant wait to bop to you drop than come steppin Friday night to the Rockabilly sounds of Sean Mencher and His Rhythm Kings.
Every year the festival grows and theres always something new. This year we are adding to our ample workshop schedule an extended Fiddle workshop with Darol Anger and friends, and when we say friends we mean scorching fiddle fiends. We also have our newly extended Childrens Academy to debut.
Our contests continue to offer great prizes and in turn attract talented contestants. Sponsoring the New England Songwriting Contest, Flatpickin and Banjo Championships at Ossipee Valley have the added benefit of filling the grounds with pickers and singers so the after hours, okay who are we kiddin, the all day long field playing is a pickin party paradise!
The grounds are expansive, pine shaded and flat! Theres plenty of RV hookups and tons of tenting space. Weve got showers and flushing toilets! The mighty Ossipee River bends around the grounds and the mountain bike trails are just a pedal away. There are plenty of shade tents and barns to keep you dry too...well theyll keep you out of the rain but we cant keep you out of the vat! Come to Ossipee Valley and youll be dripping in a musical deluge!
So buy your tickets to the Festival now and make your plans to be part of the festival that "Dares to Be Different!"

HEBRON PINES CAMPGROUND
|
|
Details:
|
Hi,
As many of you know, last year some of us were looking for something to do Labor Day weekend and spent a few days at the site of one of our favorite old festivals--Hebron Pines Campground in Hebron Maine.
We had such a good time, we thought we'd try to expand the crowd for a weekend of picking (we'll probably set up an open stage), golf, karaoke(it was a blast), and other fun stuff. This isn't a festival, just a get together of old and new friends.
I've been in touch with Dale and Cindy Kyllonen and have set up some tee times on Sat. AM for a casual golf tourney of some kind.
Camping would be: $20/night for full hookups (usually$30)
$15/night for electric only (same for rough camping with no electric)
$10 per person overnight visitors fee if you are alone and just want to pitch a tent or something
For reservations call 207-966-2179 (no website)
Please pass this along to others -- the more the merrier.
I'll eventually need to know who'd like to golf and whether you'd like to play 9 or 18 ($10 or $20) and whether you'd like to walk or ride. email or call me (207-729-6060)
That's all for now. Stay tuned and stay in touch.
Brian
